HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – Bonaire Middle School won numerous awards at the 2009 Georgia National Fair. Students competed in art and Future Farmers of America (FFA) competitions, winning 32 awards to include 15 first-place ribbons.
“Bonaire Middle School had an outstanding performance in the Youth Art division at the Georgia National Fair,” said Lynn Waggoner, art teacher. “For the second consecutive year, Bonaire earned the ‘Superior Middle School Award,’ winning a plaque and $200 for the art program. In total, our students won 15 ribbons and almost $400 in cash prizes. We are all very proud of our Jaguar artists!”
Cheralyn Boettcher, agricultural education teacher and FFA adviser, commented, “The Bonaire Middle School FFA had a fantastic showing this year. I am very proud of all of my students and their hard work!”
The Youth Art award winners were:
· Hayley Crews: Bank of Perry “Youth Art Merit” award, Best in Category, and 1st Place ribbons for a graphite pencil sketch;
· Dorian Rozier: Best in Category and 1st Place ribbons for altered photography;
· Cameron Childree: 1st Place ribbon, sculpture (wood);
· Austin Howard: 1st Place ribbon, sculpture (mixed media; found objects);
